Mobilicom Ltd. designs, develops and manufactures instant mobile wireless network solutions and products. Mobilicom introduces an innovative and new solution, the MC-1000 system, which incorporates the concepts of instant, ad-hoc/mesh, 4G mobile and broadband communications into a range of products.
INSTANT – Refers to the concept that no infrastructure is necessary in order to start communications between nodes in the MC-1000 mobile wireless system.
AD-HOC/MESH – Ad-hoc refers to direct communication between nodes in a network without the necessity of a base station or other entity to manage, direct and execute such communication. Mesh refers to a cloud network where nodes can communicate directly between themselves or via other nodes that relay the communication to the nodes in the cloud, creating a reliable, self-healing network. This is also known as wireless peer-to-peer (P2P) communications.
MOBILE WIRELESS – Refers to the high speed mobility of up to 800Km/h supported by Mobilicom's solutions based on 4G - ad-hoc LTE technology. The broadband communications link is maintained in high mobility through the combination of ad-hoc and mesh architectures, allowing continuous dynamic routing of packets between nodes.
BROADBAND – Fast transmission of large amounts of information like video and data that can be transmitted in real time from node to node. The MC-1000 system’s bi-directional broadband communications feature is important for different high-end applications that are supported by Mobilicom's network solutions and products.
Interview with Yossi Segal, VP of Mobilicom Ltd. R&D
Q: How do you differentiate the Instant Wireless Network of the MC-1000 system from other wireless communication devices?
A: The wireless solutions we are familiar with use a common star topology approach of P2MP which requires a central station (i.e. a base station or access point) to manage and transfer the communication between users in its area to the backbone. Those central stations are an essential part of the infrastructure that needs to be deployed in advanced. Without this infrastructure no communication is feasible between units in the area. What happens if there is no infrastructure or it is destroyed?
We wanted to introduce the concept of "instant communications" that can be achieved between units in the same area, without any infrastructure.
An important part of this new approach is the AD-HOC and MESH capabilities. The ad-hoc network capability of the MC-1000 enables direct and independent communication between units, while the Mesh feature enhances this capability and enables communication between remote user units directly or relayed via other users. Mesh allows network data to hop from one device to another until it reaches its destination. Dynamic routing algorithms implemented in each device allow this to happen.
As a result we get a self-forming, self-managed and self-healing system that can operate independently.
The MC-1000 system is also unique since it can provide the instant and ad-hoc/mesh capabilities for broadband – up to 40Mbps between users, at high mobility – up to 800Km/H, all based on the most advanced technology exist today of 4G LTE.
These key system features meet the special requirements of our targeted emerging markets like finding a broadband internet connection on trains, disaster relief communications and broadband access in remote locations. The solution is relatively inexpensive and both reliable and resilient, as each node needs only transmit as far as the next node, and each node can be accessed via several nodes in the network.
Q: There are other 4G and LTE products starting to hit the market. Why is 4G/LTE important as a technology for the MC-1000 system and its potential uses?
A: The simple answer is that 4G LTE is better technology. Customers and users demands are growing at a fast pace so it is essential to use the most advanced technologies such as 4G LTE.
The MC-1000 uses the best of breed 4G technologies of LTE such as:
OFDM/A modulation schemes with proven performance in N-LOS and LOS
environments, affected with multi-paths and other environment interferences.
MIMO antennas technology with Tx and Rx inherent diversity and
Beam-Forming advanced antenna processing.
Turbo-codes Forward-Error-Correction
End-to-end mobile IP data transport solution
By adding the concept of instant communications and the capabilities of ad-hoc/mesh, the resulting network spans larger distances and opened up markets seeking a robust solution.
