Public Safety and Safe City

Public Safety and Safe City

Every day in cities, towns and rural areas around the world, emergency response personnel respond to a variety of incidents. These range from routine incidents and support responses to natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other crises. Their ability to communicate in real time is critical to establishing command and control at the scene of an emergency and managing the scope of the event. Findings from major incidents throughout the history of emergency management in the world have cited communications difficulties as the major failing and challenge.

Cities all over the world have Safe City communications infrastructure, many with cameras and sensors that cover city neighborhoods and allow the local authorities to monitor events that are taking place. In most mission critical or disaster scenarios the civilian wireless communications infrastructure collapses because of overuse, destruction or jamming. The provision of an independent and secure communications system without infrastructure is essential to the success of the first responder efforts.

Because the Mobilicom MC-1000 system is independent of any communications infrastructure, it is secure and immune to communications lapses, so it can be relied on in emergency situations. The 4G network provides fast transmission of data and video between responder’s teams on the move and with central command, allowing video/data information sharing among mobile units for better monitoring of the situation on the ground and in the air.

MOBILE Capabilities
– When mobile communications are needed for emergency responders, an independent system like the MC-1000 is crucial for times when the civilian network goes down. Mobilicom’s system allows mobile units and moveable sensors to communicate with each other when responding to an event. Current safe city solutions focus on serving fixed sensors and cameras, but lack the ability of supporting ad-hoc mobile or moveable sensors. The Mobilicom solution represents the latest in 4G LTE technology, enabling ad-hoc communications between first responders on the move and central command.

BROADBAND CapabilitiesThe MC-1000 system allows up to 40Mbps transmission between nodes for uplink, downlink or any combination of the two. So in an emergency situation, the amount of data/video that can be shared directly among emergency units at the scene and transmitted to central command is far greater than other wireless systems using star topology. The ability to see events in real time and share critical information between responders directly will make any evaluation and reaction by mobile units and Central Command faster and more precise.

INSTANT Capabilities – Wireless infrastructure that has been overloaded and collapsed, or interfered with and jammed, is no longer usable. Furthermore, in suburban or rural areas where communication infrastructure is out of reach or doesn't exist, regular wireless solutions are not reliable. Mobilicom’s solution allows instant communications without infrastructure between mobile nodes, supplying fast transmission of video, data and voice. Instant and independent communications leads to better coordination and efficiency, which can save lives especially during critical events.

AD-HOC/Mesh Capabilities – Operating mobile communications between nodes in a city is problematic due to tall buildings, interference and severe non-line-of-sight conditions, or impossible in rural areas far from wireless infrastructure. The ad-hoc/mesh feature of Mobilicom’s solution allows the various emergency vehicles to communicate with each other and to central command, self-forming and self-healing as interference severs the connection between one node and another. The network maintains communications even if a node fails with Mobilicom’s flexible system, unlike regular wireless systems that are based on single point of failure – the base-station.

The Mobilicom Advantages:
For Safe City – Direct mobile broadband communications between
   all responding units
For suburban/rural Public Safety - Instant, broadband mobile
   communications anywhere

Mobilicom’s MC-1000 system allows for direct broadband communication between emergency vehicles responding to an event in the city, as opposed to star topology networks. In rural areas, the system’s instant communications allows for fast transmission where infrastructure might not exist. Uplink communications of video and data is also faster with the MC-1000 as cellular and other wireless systems focus on downlink communications and have limited uplink capabilities.
